BVN: New Riverside Congressmember Mark Takano Sworn In

Riverside’s newest congressmember, Mark Takano was sworn in to the 113th congress during a ceremony held in Washington, DC.

Representative Mark Takno’s family gathered to celebration Rep. Takano being sworn into Congress.

Congressmember Takano states: “I had the great privilege of taking an oath to uphold the Constitution and be sworn in as a Member of the 113th Congress. My very presence in the peoples chamber confirms what I have always known about this great nation – that no matter who you are, where you're from or who you love , the American Dream is within reach for anyone willing to work for it. I’m humbled by this opportunity and consider serving the people of the 41st District of California the honor of a lifetime.

“Although our economy has rebounded to levels not seen in over four years, there are still real issues facing our nation that require urgent action. My hope is that the 113th Congress will focus on improving our economic recovery, reforming our broken immigration system, preserving Medicare and Social Security for future generations and addressing our long-term fiscal situation. Solving these issues will not be easy, but if we have learned anything from the past two years, it is that the American people are desperate for Congress to function properly once again. “As a life-long resident of the Riverside area, I’m determined to address the issues we face in our district. With an unemployment rate above the national average, budget shortfalls forcing cuts to important services, and an air quality among the worst in the country, the challenges we face may seem great, but I remain convinced none are insurmountable."

“I have always believed that public service is an essential part in the advancement of our communities and encourage residents to take an active dialogue with me on the best paths forward. My promise is that I will always listen and work tirelessly to make our neighborhoods better places to live.”
